This is a bit out of area, but it’s close enough for a day trip.
Amtrak brought its Exhibit Train to Burlington, Iowa today for a media event Friday and public display from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Saturday and from noon to 5:00 pm on Sunday. See full details here.
The Exhibit Train dates back to 2011 when Amtrak celebrated its 40th birthday. There is an updated version for 2013. According to Amtrak:
…the Exhibit Train features new displays including workable signals, virtual sleeping accommodation tours and trivia with returning favorite displays including the locomotive stand and horns. In addition, it features photos, uniforms, vintage advertising and memorabilia from Amtrak’s beginning in 1971 to today’s modern-sleeping cars and high-speed rail service. Exclusive Amtrak merchandise is also available for purchase.
Another highlight is that the Exhibit Train will feature locomotive No. 42, which was painted just last June in a new livery celebrating the nation’s veterans. I caught it leading Amtrak’s Illinois Zephyr from Chicago to West Quincy (MO) on July 8. See video below:
