When Genesee & Wyoming Inc obtained legal control of the Toledo Peoria & Western on December 28, 2012, it was only a matter of time before it unveiled a new logo for the shortline.
Now it is public. Check out this tariff for Toxic Inhalation Hazard (TIH) and Poisonous Inhalation Hazard (PIH) shipments. New TP&W logo is visible on the first page.

How generic can they get? Sheesh.
2 Bulby // Feb 6, 2013 at 10:13 pm
hey, at least they kept the TP&W name

It’s not much more than the traditional TP&W Logo. It’ll probably look better in color. Circle is orange, rest yellow with black letters.

should get a look at it pretty soon as they are supposed to be repainting 3 locomotives. this comes to me from an employee of the T&P over the weekend

Rich,
Thanks for the info. A few other former RA shortlines have received orange units so I’d expect TP&W to get its first soon.

would they paint those in peora
7 David P. Jordan // Feb 7, 2013 at 8:41 am
Not sure, but they may be why those GP50s were missing Saturday. Perhaps they were inside the TP&W diesel shop getting painted?
8 alex // Feb 7, 2013 at 9:58 am
I seen on on ummm…sunday or monday sitting outside.
Could be why the other 3 GP-50′s never arrived?
9 David P. Jordan // Feb 7, 2013 at 10:12 am
I wonder why they were moved? Anyway, these seem like the most likely to get painted first. Not sure about the other three that were expected. Something changed, I guess. There’s a rumour that TP&W is to get four rebuilt SD60s, but I’ll believe it when I see it.
10 alex // Feb 7, 2013 at 11:23 am
Wow SD 60′s? That would be interesting. We “M” models?
Well sometime last week I had seen one of shoved past the turn tbale and one was on the turntable. it was only there for a day or 2. They you seen they were gone, then I seen one the other day on the otherside of the work shed.

Take the SD60 rumor with a grain of salt. TP&W reportedly won’t get the Magnetation business, but GWI might be able to pull another coup that RA couldn’t (or wouldn’t) that requires higher horsepower diesels.
I know there have been some rumors of Powder River Basin coal movements coming off the UP at Sommer and then going over TP&W back to the UP and Chenoa then up to the Midwest Generation power plant at Joliet. This is likely to avoid the now CN-controlled EJ&E. Of course, UP power would run through to destination, so there will be no need for TP&W-lettered SD60s.

BN Units were gone today.

Caught a few things on trainorders.com
CIND is going to be C and I? and they already have a Orange Unit. Someone mentioned that an old IORY shop has been set up as a paint shop.
Still trying to find info on the TPW
Some new engines popping up on smoe of the sister roads in Indiana. http://www.railroadfan.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=26765&p=261372&hilit=orange+paint#p261372

The latest I’ve heard is that CIND GP50′s 5000 and 5008 will be painted orange and re-lettered/numbered at the Indiana & Ohio Rwy’s Brookville, IN shop to become TPW 5010 and 5018.
15 alex // Feb 13, 2013 at 1:42 pm
What are some good message boards to keep up with info on these things.
I also read in a different place that those 2 engines you mentioned were heading to the IORY ..
16 Andrew // Feb 13, 2013 at 3:11 pm
The 5000 and 5008 are supposed to be coming to the TPW as David said. This can always change though as with anything else on the railroad lol.
The CIND 5003 is in the I&O paint booth at Brookville and should be released any day now as I&O 5013. The CBNS 5004 should be going in next and come back out as I&O 5014. The TPW units should follow if all goes to plan.

Are the 2 BN units missing from East Peoria the GP 50s headed for paint? Or are they painting RA schemed engines first.
21 alex // Feb 14, 2013 at 12:55 pm
Also, I was visiting Kouri’s ( a restaurant in washington at the lcoation of the old depot) Before they had a picture of a double train main coming through town at the depot with a spur or (old ICG line) coming off and heading north. Another OLD picture has appeared with a steam loco at the depot. This time it is a single track line at the depot and beyond, with the spur or ICG line heading north. BUT
There is also a CROSSING or diamond on the east end of the depot. that probably connected to the line heading north. and it also went south across the TPW main (kinda towards the wheel reman plant. Where did that line go?

Hi Alex,
The GP50s that have been stored at the TP&W since October are IORY 5005 and CBNS 5009. Word is all GP50s will be painted GWI orange at IORY’s Brookville, Indiana shop with two units (5000 and 5008) going to the TP&W. Perhaps 5005 and 5009 will as well, and have been moved down there?

Hi Alex,
The Chicago & Alton/Gulf Mobile & Ohio/Illinois Central Gulf Dwight-Washington Branch crossed the TP&W in Washington, probably when it was completed in 1870. At one time, there were plans to extend the line to East Peoria and Peoria but in 1895, the C&A negotiated a deal with the TP&W for trackage rights (which lasted until 1931).
Historically, the C&A line ended just past the TP&W crossing where it served the Dickinson Canning Co. (Libby’s before closing). Champion Furnace Pipe Company operated there before it burned in 1964, forcing them to move to the old Muirson Label Co. building on Galena Road in Peoria. Finally, American Allied Railway Equipment Co, began operations there c. 1965.
After the 1972 ICG merger and American Allied opened an East Peoria facility (in Illinois Terminal’s old Farm Creek Yard), the Washington facility quit using rail service. Line was abandoned in 1979.

Seems like a waste of gas moving them to TPW, not to be used then down to CIND. Interesting logistics.
GWRR didnt waste much time getting items to PAINT. I assume the paint shop will be in continuous use until all units are painted?
Oh yeah I remember reading about the old canning factory. I heard a story that it or part of it burned and when they were sifting through the ashed they found a german WWII k98 mauser or some type of rifle used then. dont know if there is much truth to that.
You might enjoy those pictures. They are hanging inside Kouris on the site of the old depot. As Always, thanks for the info.

I also added pictures from the TZPR 1521 that ran a truck of the tracks.

Hi Alex,
I think the german rifle story might be true. German POW’s worked in that cannery.
Btw, you can inform the group that you posted some photos.
