The Surface Transportation Board has posted its decision providing notice of BNSF Railway’s plans to abandon 14.5 miles of track between Dunfermline and Farmington. The meat of the text below:

Provided no formal expression of intent to file an offer of financial assistance (OFA) has been received, this exemption will be effective on February 23, 2013, unless stayed pending reconsideration.  Petitions to stay that do not involve environmental issues,[1] formal expressions of intent to file an OFA under 49 C.F.R. § 1152.27(c)(2),[2] and trail use/rail banking requests under 49 C.F.R. § 1152.29 must be filed by February 4, 2013.  Petitions to reopen or requests for public use conditions under 49 C.F.R. § 1152.28 must be filed by February 13, 2013, with the Surface Transportation Board, 395 E Street, S.W., Washington, DC  20423-0001.

So the if it is going to do so, Keokuk Junction Railway must file an Offer of Financial Assistance (OFA) by February 4, or eleven days from now.

UPDATE: BNSF has informed the STB that it does not object to the Canton Park District’s Notice of Interim Trail Use.

    David:
Has anybody asked Pioneer CEO Mike Carr what his company’s intentions are? Maybe we don’t know because nobody, including the Canton Park District folks, or you or me have popped the question. I wonder if he’s talking or maybe would have us wait out the 14 days…
