Bloomington’s Pantagraph is reporting that additional air service will be announced for Central Illlinois Regional Airport at 10:00 Wednesday morning. Since the airline has already loaded its schedules, I can confirm that Frontier Airlines, which already announced quad-weekly Denver flights beginning May 16, will announce thrice-weekly flights to Orlando starting in late May.
Since Frontier’s service will be to Orlando International Airport, I suspect Allegiant Air’s twice-weekly flights to Orlando-Sanford International Airport, set to begin May 18, will shift to Peoria. I just can’t see a reason for both carriers to offer service to central Florida from CIRA.
Anyway, you saw it here first (unless you read Airliners.net’s forums).
UPDATE (Feb. 29): Now it’s looking like twice-weekly service on Mondays and Fridays.
UPDATE X2 (Feb. 29): Okay, now we have a press release to get the facts. Flights begin May 25 and will operate Monday, Wednesday and Friday. More details at the link.

I really can’t see a reason for both carriers to offer service to central Florida from central Illinois long term. I know Allegiant doesn’t like competing on routes but wouldn’t that apply to markets as well?

Hi Daniel,
I thought the same. I doubt Allegiant Air would have started CIRA-Sanford had they known Frontier would fly CIRA-Orlando Int’l. I’m hoping for an announcement that they will not start CIRA service after all, and instead fly Peoria-Sanford. Wouldn’t surprise me if they did.
