Site construction at the new $64 million terminal complex for the Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport has been underway since October, so the $3 million Federal grant presented a few days ago is hardly earth-shattering news.
The reason I’m blogging about this is because I wish to bring attention to an annoying error that keeps getting repeated in PJS articles pertaining to the local airport and its existing terminal. I’m hoping someone with editorial influence reads this and makes sure the error is not repeated. Newspapers are a journal of record, you know. When someone is using them for historical research and the information is incorrect, then the error is only magnified.
Before I go on, you need to know a historical fact about the existing terminal building: it was in full operation by May 4, 1959. Now read this excerpt from the article at the link provided:
The current terminal building is about 60 years old.
Do the math. Not long ago, the writer made the error that the existing terminal was “over 50 years old.”
‘Nuff said.
