UPS A300B4-600 shown Friday evening, February 6 at PIA cargo terminal. The aircraft arrived from Rockford at 10:09pm, touching down on Runway 22 (NE quadrant). Shortly after 11:00pm, the aircraft made its departure to Louisville by taxiing to Runway 13 at the airports NW quadrant.
PEORIA – Thanks to a comment on a previous post about possible expansion of United Parcel Service air operations at the Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport, I can confirm that expansion indeed happened this week. UPS ended flight operations to Decatur and doubled flights to Peoria, probably on Monday, February 2.
And they’re using wide-body jets!
An Airbus Industries A300B4-600 is operating two weekday flights. Flight #617 makes a short, late evening hop from Rockford to Peoria, from which it departs for Louisville. Flight #618 makes a pre-dawn run from Louisville to Peoria, then on to Rockford. Louisville and Rockford are UPS’s largest and second-largest hubs, respectively.
United Parcel Service’s use of an A300B4-600 is the first known scheduled wide-body service to Peoria.

Nice pic, saw you out there last night I think. Me and my kids watched it land over us on 22 and then went to parking lot next to ramp for a few minutes. Hope they keep bringing them in and add more.

That was me. I arrived at the air cargo facility to find no UPS A-300, so I decided to head over to the terminal. When I neared Dirksen Parkway, I saw a large jet on final approach. I then returned to the cargo area to snap a few pics, then sat in my car until it started to look like they were getting ready for departure. I drove to near the end of 13 to see it roar overhead. Of course, it taxied to 13 then took off toward the southeast!
My only good shot was made with a tripod. That’s the one I used on this blog entry.
