From Saturday’s Journal Star:
“I don’t know of the park district or anyone else that is sitting on $18 million,” Mayor Jim Ardis said Thursday. “To say it is feasible at that price tag is questionable.”
Park District Executive Director Bonnie Noble agrees. The park district has a little more than $4 million in money set aside for the construction of a converted rail-to-trail along the Kellar Branch, which is estimated to cost about $6 million.
What can I say other than the trail-only proponents have offered a predictable response. Let them try to waste taxpayers’ monies on an unnecessary “quality of life” project, whether it be $6 or $18 million.
