The Illinois Prairie Railroad Foundation’s first annual Peoria Railfair saw about 100 visitors, about half of them young children. A steady stream of patrons visited between 10:00 and noon, slowing during the lunch hour. By 1:00, the public began to stream in again, which continued until until just after 5:00.
The most popular attractions are the two locomotives courtesy of the Pioneer Industrial Railway and the Toledo Peoria & Western Railway. Dave Stromer displayed his speeder, formerly used by Canadian National track crews, which proved as popular as the locomotives.
The purpose of the railfair is to bring awareness to the public of the importance of railroads and how they affect their quality of life. Given the wonderful compliments heard from patrons, I think the fair can be judged a success.
